Dean was a professional surfer for Vans before he decided to buy a dilapidated crab shack on the coast of Nova Scotia. The spot was perfect as it looked out on one of the best point breaks in Canada, but there was a lot of work to do. With the support of a local crew of friends, Dean learned as he went, building Camp Bueno – a place for surfers and artists to congregate on the coast. I partnered with Dean to produce a photo and video shoot, to tell the story of how he turned a crab shack into an oasis on the coast. Part therapeutic journey and part DIY sufferfest, Dean lets us in on the highs of breakthroughs and lows of feeling like he as in over his head.
